O Sul Informação had already dealt with both situations

The Left Block (BE) asked for an urgent meeting with Castelão Rodrigues, the regional director of the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, because of the felling of trees and environmental attacks committed by the owners of two plots of land in the Ria Natural Park zone. Formosa, one in Cabanas de Tavira and the other located between Cacela Velha and Manta Rota.

The request for a meeting comes after João Vasconcelos, BE deputy elected by the Algarve, went to the field and found "the scale of the alleged irregularities" in the land in question.

At Quinta da Manta Rota, between Cacela Velha and Manta Rota, as Sul Informação realized at the time, ICNF has embargoed part of the work that Frusoal is doing there.

The Block contested this intervention "to convert the rainfed orchard to intensive irrigation crops, in an area of more than 15 hectares, 10 of which are a National Ecological Reserve", which "introduces a profound change to the landscape in an area where the protection of the natural environment acquires an extremely high value, given the commitment to quality tourism».

“Furthermore, the continuous spraying of fields will affect public health and the entire surrounding ecosystem, definitively altering the existing environmental quality in the area,” says the party.

The other situation denounced by the blocistas is that of the repeated and repeated practice of illegalities in a land on the edge of the Ria Formosa, near Cabanas de Tavira, in the Natural Park, by its owner.

In these cases, like the Sul Informação it's already done, logging and earth moving continues, as well as the destoning, despite the works having already been embargoed before by the ICNF.

On the ground, BE «found that work was carried out on top of the primary dune with alteration of the land profile, destruction of vegetation cover and centenary trees, as well as large-scale land movements with the creation of slopes and ditches in the middle of Parque da Ria Formosa».

“BE has also obtained information that the entrepreneur who manages this land is a repeat offender in this type of practice, and the ineffectiveness of the competent authorities is completely inadmissible”, he stated.

It is, moreover, by «verifying the inability to stop the existing illegalities in the two lands visited» that this party wants to meet with Castelão Rodrigues.

At the meeting, BE promises to demand "the renaturalization of the affected spaces in order to restore the situation as it was before the intervention and the serious penalty for offenders, in order to eliminate this type of illegality."
