Algarve mayors and businessmen sign manifesto in support of the railway between Seville and Faro

Manifesto was released by living forces of Andalusia

António Pina and Vítor Neto, presidents of AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community and NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region, signed a manifesto in support of the creation of a rail link between the airports of Seville and Seville. Faro, with passage in Huelva, which was launched by the living forces of Andalusia, on Friday, in Seville.

The Algarve's municipalities and business association were in Seville on 18 June, in a public event where “a manifesto in support of this railway link in the south-western peninsular corridor was signed, urging the Governments of Spain and Portugal and the European Union to include this strategic investment in the various sources of financing with European funds», according to the Algarve's Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR).

By subscribing to this document, the two entities reaffirm their support «for the necessary rail link Andalusia – Algarve, connecting Seville Airport with Airport of Faro, following the position previously assumed by the Mayors of Seville and Huelva».

The deputy councilor for Development and Infrastructure of the Junta de Andalucia and the general director of Mobility for this Spanish region were also present at this public act.

The signing of the manifesto was made on the sidelines of a meeting of European Union Ambassadors as part of the commemorations of the V Centenary of Fernão Magalhães' first circumnavigation trip, an event promoted and integrated in the program of the Portuguese Presidency of the European Union.

The Algarve was present in this initiative with a delegation composed of José Apolinário, president of the Algarve CCDR, Paulo Águas, rector of the University of Algarve, João Fernandes, president of Algarve Tourism, António Pina and Vítor Neto.

At the ceremony, which took place at the Consulate of Portugal, «the presidency of the Andalusia Council was awarded the Magalhães Prize, marking the contribution of the Euroregion in boosting cooperation and educational, cultural, scientific, economic and exchange between regions and cities (Seville is headquarters of the World Network of Magellanic Cities).

João Mira Gomes, Portuguese ambassador in Madrid, chaired the session, which was attended by the councilors of the Andalusian Council of Finances and European Funds and Health, the general secretary for external relations of the Andalusian Council, the lieutenant mayor of the Municipality of Seville, business associations and chambers of commerce and industry of Seville and Huelva, among other entities representing Andalusia.
