Algarvio Luís Costa becomes European runner-up in time trial

European Paracycling Championships are taking place in Austria

The Algarve paracyclist Luís Costa was crowned this Thursday, the 3rd, European vice-champion in the H5 class, at the UEC Paracycling European Championships, which are taking place in Schwanenstadt, Austria.

The Portuguese team started the European Paracycling Championships in the best way, with a podium won by Luís Costa in the handbike category. The Portuguese athlete, resident in Portimão, competed in the H5 class, only beaten by the Dutch Mitch Valize, who finished with a time of 15m21s.

The Portuguese runner completed the race in 16m45s and next Sunday will have the opportunity to compete in the long distance race of the H5 class.

“The race was very good, I felt good and I was very motivated to try to win. I had a mishap on the steepest climb of the route, where a current came out, which made me stand still for some time. However, I'm happy because, despite the problem I had, I managed to secure second place. Fortunately, I'm in good shape and this was a goal I really wanted to achieve”, said Luís Costa, who will still compete, on June 6th, in the long-distance event.
