British tour agents are 'strongly committed' to promoting the Algarve

The demand for online sessions to clarify and introduce the Algarve as a holiday destination has been «growing along with tour operators and airlines in the United Kingdom». Since May, 5 British tourist professionals have participated in these initiatives and interest has grown since Portugal entered the green list of safe countries to travel.

“British tour operators and airlines are strongly committed to preparing their professionals to promote the Algarve in the best way”, considers João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA).

«In recent weeks, we have promoted and participated in various training actions with agents in the sector who want to increase or update their employees' knowledge of the destination. Since the beginning of May, 5.300 professionals in the UK tourism industry have had the opportunity to attend these types of initiatives, being aware not only of the diversity of the tourism offer in the region, but also of all safety rules and procedures. that have been implemented,” he explains.

The most recent actions of this kind carried out by Turismo do Algarve were addressed to agents and employees of the British operator Travel Counsellors and the airline Jet2.

«According to the feedback obtained, the interest in the activities and experiences that the Algarve offers is evident and does not end with the sun and sea product», says ATA.

«The Algarve is very well positioned in terms of responsiveness to a new tourist profile that increasingly values ​​authentic experiences and environments in contact with Nature», says João Fernandes.

In addition to the beaches, the practice of outdoor sports such as cycling, hiking, golf or water sports, offering experiences in sparsely populated areas and the diversity of natural landscapes.

“In the same way, the gastronomy, traditions and heritage of the region, which attest to the authenticity of the destination, emerge as strong arguments for the offer of the destination”, says the ATA.

This is, without a doubt, an excellent opportunity to re-establish the strong ties that have always existed between the Algarve and the British market», concludes João Fernandes.
