Union of Journalists has a new president, director of Sul Informação integrates the General Council

Luís Filipe Simões, from the newspaper «A Bola», is the new chairman of the Journalists' Union for the 2021/2023 triennium, after List B won the elections that took place this Wednesday, the 19th, for the organs social structure.

The Union states, in a statement, that "List B won the elections for all national bodies, obtaining 427 votes for the Direction, Board of the General Assembly and Supervisory Board, against 247 for List A". The board of the General Assembly will now be chaired by Cesário Borga.

For the Council of Ethics, “List B obtained 422 votes against 253 for List A. Bearing in mind that the composition of this body is determined by the Hondt method, List B elected 3 members, one of them the president, and List A 2 ». Sofia Branco, from Agência Lusa, former president of the Union's Board of Directors, was now head of the B list for the Deontological Council, of which she will be the new president.

For the General Council, List B obtained 419 votes against 253 for List A. By the same method, this body will include 13 members from List B and 8 from List A. Elisabete Rodrigues, director of Sul Informação, is one of the List B members elected to the General Council. Freelance journalist Paulo Barriga, from Baleizão (Beja), also on List B, is the other representative of the South of the country in that body.

The Regional Directorate of Madeira, which presented a single list, was elected with 41 votes, while the Regional Directorate of the Azores, also with a single list, was elected by 9 votes.
