PART of the new Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program has already started in Silves

The program included live dance performances from two 6th grade classes at Silves school

A teaser for the PARTe project “Chuva de Nuteixo – The birth of sandstone from Silves”, developed by two classes from the 1st cycle of São Bartolomeu de Messines, as well as live dance performances by the two 6th year classes of a school in Silves marked the signing of the collaboration protocol between the Directorate-General for Education | Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program (PEEA) and the Chamber of Silves, on the afternoon of Friday, May 21st.

Vitor Pedroso, general director of Education, and Rosa Palma, mayor of Silves, signed the collaboration protocol for the realization of the PART – Art and Territory projects in all schools in that municipality.

The ceremony took place in Paços do Concelho and was attended by the directors of the Silves and Silves-Sul school groupings, the director of the Training Center of the Albufeira, Lagoa and Silves schools association, the PEEA coordinator teachers of the various establishments in teaching, and teachers, students and parents involved in PEEA.

The act was broadcast live, with the dissemination of a teaser about the work process and the presentations to the community already made within the scope of the PEEA | PART of the 3rd and 4th A classes of the EB23 João de Deus school, in São Bartolomeu de Messines, and the work process of the 6th C and 6th F classes, of the EB23 Garcia Domingues school, in Silves.

These two groups also toasted those present with dance performances “Chuva de Nuteixo – the birth of Silves sandstone” in the city's riverside area, on the deck next to Fissul.

For a week, these students and their teachers worked on artistic education in an immersive way, in this case music and dance, in the context of the classroom, with the artist-educator Margarida Mestre.

The Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program (PEEA) of the Directorate-General for Education implements these PART – Art and Territory projects in schools, where methods and practices of artistic education are developed based on a tale about local heritage.

In the case of the municipality of Silves, the short story was worked Nuteixo rain, by Helena Tapadinhas, about the geological heritage of Silves, within the scope of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis.

"These presentations to the PARTe community are not isolated acts, they are one of the actions of the transdisciplinary projects of the class that run until the end of the school year, such as the oral narration sessions of the stories and the pedestrian interpretation routes of the geological landscape in close relation to the tale”, explains Helena Tapadinhas, ambassador in the Algarve of the Aesthetic and Artistic Education Program.

What are PART - Art and Territory Projects

The PART | Art and Territory are school projects, transdisciplinary, that associate Art with aspects of the local natural and historical-cultural heritage, with the presentation of an artistic intervention in the community.

It is intended to promote literacy through new ways of articulating the reading of the world, starting from different supports, including the landscape and the interpretation of the way we inhabit the territory, while enjoying, experimenting and creating in different domains of languages artistic.

The core of the implementation of these projects is the dynamization of artistic education sessions, in a classroom context, by PEEA educators-artists.

For a week, the students and teachers of a class live a unique, immersive experience, provided by the practices of theater, music and dance in a school context, associated with themes from their proximity territory.

By "taking part", each class and the respective teachers of the pedagogical team (1st cycle) or of the class council (2nd and 3rd cycles), constituted as a training team in a project modality, assume as a relevant curricular option the valorization of the Arts and, simultaneously, the integration of components of a local nature in the curriculum.

The PARTs are part of the PEEA Project of the groupings in the municipalities of Lagoa, Silves and Monchique, financed by the respective municipalities.
