Government decrees civil requisition at airports for strike by SEF inspectors

Minister Eduardo Cabrita considered the strike "absolutely unacceptable and irresponsible"

The Government decided today to decree a civil requisition by the inspectors of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) at airports following the strike scheduled for June by one of the SEF unions, announced today the Minister of Internal Administration.

This decision is taken days after AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community and the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) have threatened to proceed with a request to the Government for a civil requisition to advance the strike in the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).

"Today's Council of Ministers decided to proceed with the civil requisition of workers in the area of investigation and inspection of the SEF at airports," said Eduardo Cabrita in parliament during the debate on the restructuring of the SEF scheduled for a draft resolution of the CDS- PP.

The minister added that the civil requisition had already been requested by the Regional Government of Madeira and by the generality of mayors in tourist areas “as a concern for national security”.

The SEF's Union of Investigation, Surveillance and Border Inspectors has scheduled a cycle of strikes for June, starting next week against the Government's intention “to extinguish the SEF”.

Eduardo Cabrita considered the strike “absolutely unacceptable and irresponsible” which is announced by one of the SEF unions.

«The strike is a serious attack on national security, it is inadmissible in the context of a situation of calamity in which the SEF is also responsible for verifying the health security conditions, namely whether citizens arriving in Portugal have or do not have Covid diagnostic tests -19”, he stressed.

For the minister, the strike "is something that also pays attention to the expectation of recovery of the national economy."
