EB 2,3 energy community in Salir wins national award

School will receive a cash prize of 1000 euros

The EB2,3 Professor Sebastião Teixeira de Salir School took 3rd place in the national Energy Up competition, promoted by the Galp Foundation, due to its project to create a school energy community.

This school of the Padre João Coelho Cabanita grouping will receive a monetary prize of 1000 euros, as well as an environmental awareness session promoted by Quercus.

«The School Energy Community of Salir is a project developed with the support of the Municipality of Loulé. It focuses on raising awareness and promoting the energy transition and the decarbonisation of the school park through photovoltaic production for self-consumption”, recalled the Loulé municipality.

"The jury considered this work very complete, due to its origins and capacity to be extrapolated to other school equipment", added the Câmara de Loulé.

For the Loulé municipal executive, "this award is a good illustration of the innovative aspect of this project, which, developed by a school community in the middle of the Algarve mountains, is gaining notoriety in the rest of the country and being an example of good practices in terms of energy efficiency. it concerns".

 

Energy UP is a competition open to all primary and secondary schools in Portugal and «intends to distinguish educational establishments that have invested in the sustainability of the school community, namely through the creation of energy-related projects that bring real impact to society. and that challenge students to be an active part of this mission», according to the autarchy.

In 2021, 60 applications were submitted by groups across the country, seven of which from the Algarve.

First place was awarded to the SmartAir project, presented by the Gafanha da Nazaré Schools Group, in the district of Aveiro, related to the promotion of sustainable mobility.

In second place was the Solar Trees project, presented by the Monserrate Schools Group, in Viana do Castelo, which consists in the creation of a garden bench, installed in the school, which allows the charging of electronic devices using solar energy.

Two more projects were also distinguished: The Future is in the Present, promoted by the Cardoso Lopes School Group, in Amadora, and the Luz Verde, by the Nun”Alvres Institute, in Santo Tirso.

The GALP Foundation counts as partners in this initiative with APA, ADENE, DGEG and DGE and Quercus.
