"At least 80%" of the houses in the municipality of Olhão will now have fiber optic coverage from Altice Portugal, following a protocol for the expansion of the network signed this Wednesday, in this municipality, between the municipality of Olhão and the company of communications.

This investment, which will allow the extension of the current coverage in the municipality, “is very important” for Olhão, considered António Pina, president of this Chamber, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Altice Labs hub in this Algarve municipality.

«It is fair to say that this is about complementing something we have already been doing, because the presence of Altice and its fiber network in our municipality, as a result of this partnership, already makes Olhão one of the municipalities with the greatest coverage in the district of Faro», added the mayor.

Alexandre Fonseca, executive president of Altice Portugal, stressed, for his part, that, while he was in Olhão, to sign the protocol with the municipality of Olhão, other elements of Altice Portugal's executive committee were in other parts of the Algarve because of the expansion of the fiber optic network.

«Today, Altice Portugal will establish protocols for the reinforcement of fiber optic coverage with several municipalities in the Algarve, such as Olhão, Lagos, Albufeira», he explained.

"This is an optical fiber reinforcement that will allow the inhabitants and companies of these municipalities to benefit from a faster and more resilient network, and, consequently, a significant evolution of the region's connectivity indices", added Alexandre Fonseca.

The president of Altice Portugal, in an exclusive interview he gave to Sul Informação, highlighted that, currently, «there are close to 6 million homes and companies covered with the largest fiber optic network in the country, Altice Portugal, in an unprecedented investment aimed at placing Portugal at the technological forefront, in a transversal manner and without discrimination of regions or populations'.

“We will continue to be on the side of the territory. Today the day will be dedicated to being alongside a number of municipalities, to which we continue to expand our mobile networks, fiber optics, innovation initiatives, but also social responsibility, such as the inauguration of more of our famous booths. reading', he concluded.

One of these mini-libraries, which are being installed in old telephone booths, will be inaugurated today in Portimão.

«This is the second reading booth in the Algarve [Faro has one since 2018] and the 43rd rehabilitated by the Altice Foundation, which materializes a space for democratizing access to Education and Culture. The historic telephone booths thus gain a new relevant role in serving the community», illustrated Alexandre Fonseca.

The reading booths project is promoted under the Social Responsibility axis of Altice Portugal and «they are community spaces for books to “Take, donate, read and return”, the motto of the initiative».
