There is no shortage of people interested in exploring the former tax posts of Burgau and Sagres

The two buildings in the municipality of Vila do Bispo were, by far, the most coveted, among the seven in the competition

There are 94 interested in guaranteeing the tourist exploitation rights of the former Burgau Tax Post and 33 candidates to obtain the same privileges, in relation to the former Sagres Tax Post, two of the seven properties in the whole country allocated to the Revive Natureza Fund that were the target of a contest.

The two buildings in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, the only ones in the Algarve in competition, are by far the most coveted and account for 127 of the 161 applications received. The podium is closed by the former Fiscal Post of Foz do Lima, which has 16 candidates.

The application phase ended last Friday, already after having been prolonged.

Once the tender phase, launched on 18 November 2020 by Turismo de Fundos, has been completed, the procedure for analyzing the proposals now begins.

"The Revive Natureza Fund may grant financing to entities that are granted the right to exploit the properties, thus creating the best conditions for the realization of the respective investments", according to the office of the Minister of State for the Economy and the Digital Transition.

«Turismo Fundos will manage the overall network of properties in the State, distributed from the north to the south of the country, among which are mostly former forest guard houses and former tax posts, which will be leased or leased for purposes tourism, through a competition, being subject to a set of rules for use and management in a network, namely with regard to the use of the REVIVE NATUREZA brand, consumption of local products, environmental sustainability and enhancement of the territory», he added.

For Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism, «the recovery and enhancement of public properties, vacant for decades, mostly located in spaces with natural heritage values, which have a high potential for tourist attraction, remains a priority» .

"Once again, the interest on the part of the private sector in recovering and valuing these assets exceeded the best expectations, showing that the market believes in the future of the sector," he added.
