The Municipality of Monchique launched a new municipal business support program, which aims to promote the economic recovery of the municipality.
The “Retomar Monchique”, approved yesterday at the Chamber Meeting, provides support such as the payment of 50% of the rent, financial compensation for the jobs maintained and expenses with energy and communications, among other fixed expenses.
"At a time when many of the state support is coming to an end or even many of them have not even benefited many of these companies, the municipality could not fail to make its contribution in order to support this phase of resumption of many activities", framed the Chamber of Monchique.
«With an endowment of 250 thousand euros, this program consists of a set of non-refundable financial support, on the one hand, and/or exemption from fees and licenses, on the other (terrace, water, waste, advertising), and is intended to all companies that had a 20% reduction in their turnover”, he added.
The non-refundable financial support, «is based on the IAS (social support index) and is calculated based on the level of employment held by the beneficiary, the income loss ratio and also includes support for the acquisition of personal protective equipment» .
“Support will also be given to the payment of rents, fixed expenses with electricity, gas, communications, HACCP, management/billing programs and electronic marketing platforms”.
«In addition to these measures, the municipality of Monchique will also provide, on its institutional website, information on all programs and measures in force within the scope of Covid, as well as providing all interested entrepreneurs in the municipality with the possibility of conducting screening tests of the disease'.
This program will come into force after its publication in the Diário da República, with potential beneficiaries having a period of 15 days to submit their application to them, via email [email protected].
The regulations, the checklist of necessary documentation and the application form will be made available on the website of the Monchique Chamber on the day of its publication.
The premises of this program are to "recover the economy", "regain confidence", "continue professional activity", "continue with the objectives", "follow paths" and "return to the previous condition or pattern".
For Rui André, president of the Chamber and who conceived the program, "this public health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic triggered an unprecedented economic crisis on a world scale, putting the survival of many companies and jobs in crisis."
«The severity and magnitude of the impact of the pandemic crisis has become so accentuated that we have not yet been able to quantify the real impact on the daily lives of the Portuguese and the dimension of the economic crisis that the country is going through, especially in terms of trade activities , catering, accommodation and small services», added the mayor.
Given this scenario, «the municipality of Monchique, within the scope of Covid-19's prevention, containment, mitigation and treatment measures, cannot ignore its social and economic responsibilities, and cannot remain indifferent to the impact that the measures carried out caused and continue to provoke in all those who exercise their activity in the territory of Monchique, be they from the business or labor community».
Rui André pointed out that "a large part of the business fabric installed in the territory of Monchique, is made up of micro and small companies under any legal form, including sole proprietors".
In this way, the mayor devised a program with the objective of «attributing financial support to companies based and established in the municipality of Monchique, which had their activity closed and/or suspended» with a view to «combating the economic effects of this crisis pandemic, asserting itself as a local complement and reinforcement to national economic support measures, which, admittedly, are manifestly insufficient».
Parallel to “Retomar Monchique”, a consumption incentive program similar to the one promoted at Christmas will be presented, to «stimulate the economy and stimulate the acquisition of goods and services in the county's commercial spaces and restaurants».
