João Vasconcelos is again candidate of the Bloc for the Portimão Chamber

Pedro Mota will also be, once again, the candidate for the Municipal Assembly by BE

João Vasconcelos is once again the Left Block candidate for the Portimão Chamber, in this year's Municipal Elections. Pedro Mota will also be, once again, the candidate for the Municipal Assembly.

Member of Parliament and Councilor of the Portimão Chamber since 2013, João Vasconcelos is 65 years old, married, with three children, and a History teacher

In 2015 he was elected deputy to the Assembly of the Republic for the Algarve and re-elected in 2019. A trade unionist, he belonged to the Directorate of the Teachers Union of the South Zone and of the National Council of FENPROF.

«He participated in various social struggles and was one of the main promoters of these movements in Portimão and for the Algarve, such as the struggle against the Civil Protection Tax in Portimão, in the “Je Suis Ilhéu” movement, in the struggles against the troika, in defense the NHS and against tolls on Via do Infante», says BE.

Pedro Mota, on the other hand, is 49 years old, married, with one child and is a Commercial and Business Technician – CTT.

He was elected mayor at the Municipal Assembly of Portimão in 2013 and re-elected in 2017.

He is currently part of the social bodies of an IPSS and two sociocultural associations in the municipality of Portimão. Member of the BE since 2006, he holds positions in the secretariat of the municipality of Portimão and is a member of the District Coordinating Committee of the Left Block.

In a press release, the Left Bloc says that "it will compete with its own lists to the council's municipal bodies, whose lists are under preparation and open to independent citizens as long as they agree with the blocist matrix and are willing to contribute to a political upheaval much needed in the municipality of Portimão».

“The political situation in the municipality has hit rock bottom and the time has come to restore dignity, but with quality of life in Portimão,” he adds.

The "main responsibility for the apathy, indifference, clientelism, environmental attacks, the brutal municipal indebtedness that continues to plague the lives of thousands of people from Portimo and hundreds of companies lies in the aimless management and in line with the interests of the various executives of the PS, for 45 years, uninterrupted. In other words, if the PS were to win the next municipal elections in Portimão, its perpetuation in power would go beyond the long 48-year dictatorship», he says.

The Block program, which is under construction in Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, «will be developed around the following strategic axes: the emergency response to the serious crisis that hit the municipality and, in particular, to social needs through the reinforcement of social policies, more and better housing, in the fight against unemployment, precariousness, poverty and social exclusion; the commitment to sustainable local development, a better environment and job creation».

To this is added «the fight for a better quality of life and fiscal justice, the commitment to sport and culture as pillars of society, the uncompromising defense of minorities and the fight against domestic violence, the defense of animal welfare , rigor, absolute transparency and the uncompromising fight against any type of corruption, and the participation and strengthening of participatory democracy».
