Algarvensis Geopark signs protocol with QRER for Algarve Craft & Food project

The Algarve Craft & Food project is led by the Algarve Tourism Region and also brings together the association Tertúlia Algarvia and QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories

The aspiring Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira signed a financing protocol with the QRER Cooperative to create the necessary conditions for the «successful execution of the Algarve Craft & Food project in its territory».

The Algarve Craft & Food project is led by the Algarve Tourism Region and also brings together the association Tertúlia Algarvia and the QRER – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, being yet another proposal aimed at combating the effects of seasonality in the region.

“The lines of work are already defined. The first step, already underway, will be to attract artisans, local food producers and other players through presentation actions. The second involves their training», says the project by the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis.

Then follows a «phase of creation and experience, with a creative residency and a creative laboratory for those same agents who want to join the project».

The aspiring Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira and Algarve Craft & Food share common goals and intend to preserve and revitalize traditional practices and customs. It is at this stage that the first prototypes of new handicrafts inspired by Algarve gastronomy should emerge. These prototypes will be developed with the aim of generating five new regional handicraft products.

This project includes marketing and after partnerships are established, 10 new creative tourism programs will be created for the Algarve, within the scope of the project.

At the end of the Algarve Craft & Food project, digital and physical content, promotional videos and brochures will be produced for an international campaign and a specialized consultancy in markets and distribution channels, such as the United States of America, Canada, Northern Europe, Spain and Portugal .

Algarve Craft & Food involves a total investment of around 725 thousand euros, 70% financed by CRESC Algarve 2020.

The co-financing of the aspiring Geopark Algarvensis Loulé-Silves-Albufeira, via municipalities, stems from the fact that its territorial area meets the ideal conditions for the realization of this project, both for the promoters involved and for its entrepreneurial ecosystem residing in the areas of arts and crafts , agri-food and cultural and creative tourism.
