Folar de Olhão and Queijadas de Serpa are now sold by Lidl Portugal

For some of these producers, entry into the project will allow a balance of companies that saw their businesses affected by the pandemic

Folar de Olhão, Serpa Queijadas, Elvas Chorizo, Madeira Sugarcane Honey Cake, Cured Goat Cheese from Trás-os-Montes, Traditional Peach Jam from Cova da Beira PGI, or Ovos Moles de Aveiro are some of the products that Lidl customers will be able to get to know, from May, in the scope of the “Da Minha Terra” initiative.

Following the “Da Minha Terra” project, the initiative launched at the end of September last year in the context of a pandemic to support Portuguese producers, Lidl selected 46 regional articles, expanding its network of national suppliers, with the integration of 35 new suppliers in the areas of Delicatessen, Cheese, Sweets and Dry Cakes.

Coming from the most varied regions from north to south of the country, the 35 new suppliers stood out – among the approximately 70 candidates who presented their products in December, in person, in a pitch format, – for the quality and excellence of their products, and also for its ambition to grow and innovate.

Revealing what is best done in Portugal, giving to its customers 46 new regional products from these new suppliers to prove, is now the next step to be taken by Lidl, with the availability of products at regional or national level in its more than 260 stores, depending on the producer's supply capacity and customer acceptance.

For some of these selected suppliers, entry into Lidl Portugal's “Da Minha Terra” assortment “will allow them to balance their companies, which saw their businesses affected by the pandemic, or in other cases also, an opportunity to increase their capacity to production and teams, while supporting local businesses through the purchase of raw materials”, stresses Lidl.

All products that are part of the assortment following this initiative will be marketed with the “Da Minha Terra” seal, and will be available in specific areas in Lidl stores, according to the conservation needs of the product in question.

The producer's brand and name are maintained, as a way to make known the supplier's products and boost their business.

Additionally, some of the 35 selected producers will also supply some of Lidl's own brands such as Fumadinho and Terra do Vento, and integrate specific actions. Under this seal will also be products from 14 other national suppliers with which Lidl already worked.

Bruno Pereira, Purchasing Administrator at Lidl Portugal, explains that «at a particularly difficult time like this, caused by the pandemic, we feel an even greater responsibility to support national producers and therefore, we took another step in this direction by launching this project “ From My Land”».

The official adds that «the applications largely exceeded our expectations, in terms of quantity and quality, and it was not easy to select the new suppliers that will join our network. But we believe we have reached a good compromise, which brings the highest quality at the best price to our customers».
