Algarve's online promotion events are playing a «fundamental role»

«The organization and participation in virtual events are bringing very positive results for the region and making a decisive contribution to the revival of tourism in the Algarve»

The Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) considered, this Tuesday, April 6, that the virtual events, promoting the region, are playing a «fundamental role in preparing the recovery of tourism».

«The organization and participation in virtual events are bringing very positive results for the region and making a decisive contribution to the revival of tourism in the Algarve».

This is ATA's assessment, so far, in light of the effort to adapt a large part of the destination promotion strategy that has been carried out in relation to the adoption of this new format.

«Given all the constraints to travel and the cancellation of major fairs and events in the sector that are traditionally part of our annual promotion agenda, we were forced to rethink our strategy, so that we can continue to promote our destination from a distance and to maintain its notoriety among our audiences», explains João Fernandes, president of ATA.

The organization of webinars and workshops, participation in online fairs or the promotion of strategically selected virtual meetings between associates and agents in the sector are some of the actions and formats that have become part of the dynamics of the activity of Turismo do Algarve on a regular basis. from its tourism promotion agency for foreign markets – Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA).

Participation in a virtual meeting with the main agents that make up the international golf travel community (IGTM Links), the online presence of ITB Berlin – one of the largest tourism fairs in the world -, the organization of the Algarve Virtual Destination Showcase, an online workshop aimed at presenting the assets of the destination for holding corporate and international associative events, or promoting online sessions aimed at travel agents in the Irish market, with a view to presenting the latest developments in the Algarve's tourism offer and the high health and safety standards implemented in the region, are just a few examples of this new type of action, recently carried out.

«Virtual events have been a very positive bet, which has allowed us to maintain proximity between the region's tourism companies and sector agents in the various markets we work with and continue to meet the needs of the various segments that make up the tourism offer of destiny”, says João Fernandes.

"On the other hand, at a time when the treasuries of companies in the sector are more fragile, online initiatives also allow to reduce some costs, which translates into crucial help at this stage when the return of tourism is being prepared," he adds.

«Although in the near future, we can witness the return of major events and face-to-face fairs in the sector, we believe that these virtual actions can act as an important complementary tool that, most likely, we will continue to integrate into our strategy to promote the destination », concludes.
