This "Bezaranha" puts hundreds of cultural workers "on the move"

New cultural program brings together the 16 Chambers of the Algarve, the Regional Directorate of Culture and will benefit hundreds of Algarve cultural agents

It will benefit hundreds of cultural workers in the Algarve, take shows to 16 municipalities in the region and promote networking. The Bezaranha project has already started and will provide residents and visitors with an authentic whirlwind of initiatives until the end of the year.

In all, more than 200 cultural initiatives and 30 itineraries between municipalities are planned. Such a spectacle and the funding of 800 thousand euros, guaranteed by the CRESC Algarve 2020 Operational Plan, will support around 700 professionals linked to the cultural area.

The money will reach not only artists, but all cultural agents, “including sound, light and audiovisual technicians and stage assembly companies. Basically, it finances the entire production," he explained to Sul Informação Pedro Bartilloti, cultural coordinator of this project.

By the way, it is not for nothing that this project has the motto “There are winds that come for good”.

The fact that Bezaranha is almost exclusively “for local agents”, will be the big difference of this event program, for others that took place in the past, such as Allgarve or “365Algarve”.

“The others were more comprehensive, in terms of the candidates' origins. At the moment, we know that more than 90% of the funds will be handed over to cultural agents residing in the Algarve and that do not go to outside artists or companies», he revealed.

However, the value of the global funding, 800 thousand euros, is far below these two programs and appears at a time when there is still no response from the Government on whether 365Algarve is to continue or not.

This aspect of support to the regional cultural fabric is one of the four pillars of Bezaranha, which was born from an application to CRESC Algarve 2020, led by AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, which involves the 16 Algarve municipalities and the Regional Directorate of Culture, which will open to the initiative its most emblematic monuments.

“This project is based on four assumptions, under which the municipalities had to consider their proposals. From the outset, support for local cultural agents, which is mandatory», explained Pedro Bartilloti.

The «holding of events, in order to enhance the monuments, the territory and the natural values», to make «at least 60% of the presentations outdoors» and the obligation to have a tour of several municipalities are the other pillars.

In this last field, that of itinerancy, «agreements were made between different municipalities, in which an event conceived in Aljezur will also take place in Alcoutim, for example, or in which there is an exhibition in Vila do Bispo that goes to Faro».

This is «an innovative situation, which has to do with the name of the application, which was “Algarve – Cultural Program in Network”».

The proposals, these, are really many, so the best thing is to spend some time exploring the Bezaranha website, to get to know them better.

And the task was even made easier by the project team, since the website, in addition to showing the program in chronological order, allows the visitor to search for events by time interval, municipality, artistic area and by name.

This week, after a first online show, which was broadcast on Sunday from Alcalar (Portimão), the Olhão Fadista Gala will take place, which will be broadcast on the Facebook pages of both Câmara de Olhão and bitch, on Friday, the 23rd, and on Saturday, the 24th, always at 21 pm.

From then on, the events followed, living up to the name of the initiative, Bezaranha, a very Algarvean expression that means gale or gale.

In the presentation of the event, António Pina, president of AMAL, highlighted the importance of the project, from the outset, «because it is urgent to support the culture sector and, afterwards, because of the importance of having, for the first time, a network with all this scope» .

«There are 18 partners who managed to put in place a program that will cross all the Algarve's municipalities. And this is a very important step», he said.

The also mayor of Olhão wanted this to be "just a first candidacy" and that the project "leave marks".

"We want the next Operational Program to bring more money so that we can support the cultural sector in our region," he added.

Adriana Nogueira, regional director of Culture of the Algarve, highlighted the fact that this project foresees initiatives in the monuments of the Algarve, stressing that the teams that work there are already very used to hosting cultural events, thanks to the DiVAM programme.

The fact that the monuments are frequently visited, can, on the other hand, "help in promoting cultural initiatives that may take place there".

José Apolinário, president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission and manager of CRESC Algarve 2020, recalled that this project was born "from a claim of the municipalities", whose investment in culture, he believes, has been "significant and relevant".
