Cultural spaces in Castro Marim reopen to the public

Casa de Odeleite, Casa do Sal and the Local Market have already reopened, Castelo reopens on 18 April

Castro Marim reopened Casa de Odeleite, Casa do Sal and Mercado Local to the public, three spaces in the municipality that «live culture in its most diverse forms, combining art, literature and heritage and stimulating discovery and creation. », announced the Chamber.

On April 18th, the Castle of Castro Marim will also reopen, «which is now undergoing some improvements. In addition to the fortress itself, you can visit the exhibitions “Castro Marim, First Seat of the Order of Christ” and “Instruments of Torture and Punishment”».

“Opening or reopening cultural spaces is not enough, it is necessary to make them alive and give them a sense of belonging to the community and welcoming visitors. Culture is made of people, for people and is translated into sharing and what makes one feel», defended Filomena Sintra, deputy mayor of Castro Marim, stressing that culture is one of the areas most sacrificed by the pandemic and that now it is necessary to give it greater dynamism and greater attention.

And which cultural spaces are these that are once again accessible to the public?

«The Casa de Odeleite is emblematic in the renowned “flower village”. It was an important commercial warehouse during the first decades of the XNUMXth century. Today the space exhibits some of the assets of what was the richest house in the parish and proposes a reading of the house in conjunction with the history of the territory. Equipped with a cafeteria and shop, it also has a dignified interior patio where you can enjoy the tranquility of a village in the Algarve mountains», described the Castromarinense Chamber.

Casa do Sal, located in Castro Marim, is, in turn, «the main dynamizing center of culture, aimed at the enhancement and promotion of traditional salt production. With several functional areas, it is above all a space that has served to meet the community around social, cultural and recreational activities».

The public will be able to find in this space the exhibition “100 Memories of Castro Marim”, “a collection of letters, photographs, postcards, documents, books and many other memorabilia that were bequeathed to the new City Council Digital Archive, contributing to the construction of a new look at the cultural and social identity of Castro-Armain».

«Still within the scope of this project of 100 Memories, the street exhibition “Ruas com Memória” was developed, which you can visit while discovering and walking through the streets of the town of Castromarinense», added the municipality.

The Local Market of Castro Marim, «which worked for decades as the main supplier of fruit, vegetables and fish in the village, is today a multifunctional cultural-tourist space reserved for the dynamization and dissemination of local arts and knowledge and the main point of promotion endogenous products of the Municipality of Castro Marim. Now it also hosts a leisure and enjoyment area, with some books available for consultation/reading».
