Algarve company launches into space race

In the next two years, “LS-Engenharia Geográfica” will receive technical and financial support

It is called “LS Engenharia Geográfica” and is an Algarve company that recently signed a contract with the European Space Agency (ESA) for the development of projects in the field of geospatial engineering, in the next two years.

Like NASA, in the United States of America, ESA is an intergovernmental organization made up of 22 Member States.

This European agency, with an annual budget of 6,70 billion euros, is dedicated to space exploration, constituting Europe's gateway to space and its mission to plan the development of its capabilities, ensuring that the investment in space continues to bring benefits to European citizens.

ESA works closely with non-European space organisations.

“LS-Engenharia Geográfica” was one of the European companies selected at the end of 2020, within the scope of ESA Space Solutions, a program to support the development and growth of startups connected to geospatial technologies.

The "LS-Geographic Engineering", headquartered in Faro, is specialized in the production of digital cartography, focusing on land and maritime environmental protection, and since 2019, in addition to partnerships established with universities, it has made investments in the areas of scientific and technological research, becoming a pioneer in the Iberian Peninsula, in the creation of new earth observation services using satellites.

In the next two years, “LS-Geographic Engineering” will receive technical and financial support from ESA for the development of earth observation services, at a global level, one of which foresees the creation of specific software and hydrographic information systems for the study. of coastal strips and support for maritime navigation in areas not covered by official nautical cartography.

Moreover, this type of programs, in addition to promoting the business relationship between the startups awarded, will foster the transfer of technology and capital to our region, catapulting it across borders, to the highest level of engineering.
