The 44th International Cross of Amendoeiras em Flor takes place this Sunday, April 18, at Açoteias track, in Albufeira. This will be another edition of a mythical proof.

The morning will be dedicated to the professional competition of athletes participating in the Cross Internacional das Amendoeiras em Flor, in an «initiative that transports Albufeira to the world and brings the best athletes from around the world», says José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

"After some uncertainties resulting from the current pandemic, it was agreed that it was necessary to respond to the numerous requests of athletics lovers, as well as bringing back to the fore one of the most beautiful and privileged scenarios in this country for the practice of athletics," he adds.

The Algarve Athletics Association, responsible for organizing the last stage of the World Athletics Cross Country Circuit, emphasizes that it is «an elite competition in the oldest aspect of the sport, the cross country, with the presence of some of the best international athletes, as well as the best national athletes».

This year, the competition is limited to professional athletes and with no public, given the current circumstances of the pandemic and rules of the General Directorate of Health in force.

As such, this year there will be neither the regional championship nor the adapted sports event for athletes with disabilities.

"The sanitary measures of hygiene and safety issued by the competent authorities will be strictly complied with", says the organization, adding that, despite this adaptation, the great test of the "golden shoes" will "fill one of the most beautiful and most beautiful cross circuits with emotion. spectacular in the world».
