Castro Marim marked the 25th of April with “Breathing Freedom”

The highlight of the celebrations was Pedro Jóia's online concert

Castro Marim celebrated the 47th anniversary of the 25th of April with the initiative “Breathing Freedom”. After a year of pandemic, this celebration of the municipality featured the usual raising of flags, the recitation of a poem, an online concert by Pedro Jóia and other musical moments.

200 people responded to the challenge launched by the Castro Marim municipality, «who expressed their participation with joy, sharing their moments by walking, jumping, running or even swimming», says the municipality.

In Castro Marim, the highlight was Pedro Jóia's online concert, in the presentation of his new album “Zeca”. This is a tribute by the artist to one of the most renowned Portuguese guitarists, in a tribute to Zeca Afonso.

The day was also marked by other musical moments and other initiatives.

The raising of the flag, with the Banda Musical Castromarinense, opened the celebrations. This was followed by the recitation of the poem “Liberdade”, by Miguel Torga, by the voice of a child from the Castro Marim school, and the traditional release of pigeons.

The “Música na Praça” also promoted several musical notes during the rest of the day, taking several artists from the territory to the main locations of the county, in symbolic and short performances. All moments were broadcast on the Municipality Facebook.

Bibliomóvel also marked the 25th of April in its mission to bring books and music to the most isolated populations. During the week, the team distributed carnations and poems of freedom and shared stories and memories of the dictatorship and the revolution that changed the course of all lives in Portugal.

Over the next week, the local authority says that Abril will continue to reach the most isolated villages, counting on the initiative “A Música Bate à Porta”, from the CLDS 4G project “Castro Marim (COM)Vida”, which will take two accordionists to tour the hills streets with traditional Portuguese music.
