Athletes from Burundi and Ethiopia win Cross das Amendoeiras in Açoteias

Thierry Ndikumwenayo, from Burundi, and Ethiopian Likina Amebaw won the 44th International Cross of Amendoeiras, held this Sunday, April 18, at Pista das Açoteias, in Albufeira. 

Ndikumwenayo finished with a time of 25.21 minutes and finished eight seconds ahead of Uganda's Hosea Kiplangat. Irish Sean Tobin was third, at 17 seconds and the best Portuguese was Rui Pinto, 4 Run athlete, who finished the race in fourth place, 33 seconds behind the winner.

In the women's event, Likina Amebaw finished with a time of 22.42 minutes, ahead of Spanish Azucena Díaz, at nine seconds, and Clara Viñaras, at 20 seconds. Carla Martinho, from Recreio Desportivo de Águeda, was the best Portuguese, finishing in fourth place, 43 seconds behind the winner.

Given the pandemic situation, this year neither the regional championship nor the adapted sports event for athletes with disabilities took place. and security issued by the competent authorities.
