Rogério Bacalhau planted two trees in Parque Ribeirinho de Faro

World Arbor Day marks this Sunday, March 21

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, planted, this Friday, March 19, in a symbolic way, two trees in the Ribeirinho da Cidade Park, as a way of commemorating the World Tree Day. 

Accompanied by Bruno Lage, president of the União das Freguesias de Faro, the entity responsible for the management and maintenance of this and other green spaces in the city, by transfer of competences by the Municipality since September 2018, the mayor sponsored the planting of two new trees of the species ligustrum japonicum next to the playground and the mini soccer field at Parque Ribeirinho.

According to the autarchy, «by action of the Municipality and the Union of Parishes of Faro, Ribeirinho Park has been the target in recent years of an increase in biological diversity, through the planting of new trees, namely autochthonous trees such as the almond and strawberry trees, as well as the expansion of the area's shading areas».

 

 

Altogether, in recent years, the Municipality says that "it has planted more than 600 trees throughout the municipality and has developed several projects that involve the enhancement of flora and green spaces in its territory".

In this sense, the City Council guarantees that it is proceeding with the «interventions in Alameda João de Deus and Mata do Liceu, two emblematic spaces considered authentic green lungs of the city, which will allow the planting of hundreds of new arboreal specimens in the public space» .

At the same time, the «Municipality currently has an ongoing procedure in the amount of approximately 40.000 euros for the acquisition of trees and subsequent planting throughout the municipality».
