Lagos celebrates World Tree Day

The program is an opportunity to make the population aware of the importance of trees in the recovery of ecosystems, a concern that will be the theme of the Blue Flag 2021

Lagos City Council will mark World Tree Day. Despite the limitations resulting from the pandemic, the municipality announces "a program adjusted to current circumstances, but which is nevertheless an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of trees in the recovery of ecosystems, a concern that will be the theme of the Blue Flag 2021".

Among the actions planned is a tree planting campaign, to be promoted by the municipal services, with the collaboration of forest sappers, from 22 to 26 March, in various places in the municipality.

The Lagos Health Center, Paul Harris Avenue, Francisco Xavier de Ataíde Street, Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1º Maio Street, Almádena village, Bensafrim Children's Park area and Odiáxere Sports Club are some of the places already confirmed. .

So that citizens can, individually and safely, help to make the environment greener, the municipality will present them, during this week, in the service of the Building Paços do Concelho Séc. XXI and Parish Councils, with a small plant and seeds.

The Parish of São Gonçalo de Lagos joins the commemorations with the “Identification of Natives”, one of the activities planned under its ECO XXI/ECO Parishes project. The initiative consists in identifying – by placing a plaque – native species (such as carob, almond, fig, arbutus and others) existing in green spaces in the parish area. Making the population aware of the importance of these species is the objective.

The Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos will also participate in these celebrations, which, in the week of March 22nd to 26th, will challenge students to carry out, within the scope of the Experimental Sciences AEC, works related to this event, which will be disseminated through the channels digital.

Users of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos, usually involved in this activity, will create poems and squares, simultaneously celebrating the World Tree and Poetry Days, both marked on March 21, while the Lucinda Anino dos Santos Social Assistance Center will participate with the planting of trees at the Santo Amaro Children's Center.
