Liberal Initiative denies support for Carito's candidacy for the Portimão Chamber

Candidacy «is the representation of nepotism, cronyism, corruption and bad public management that exists not only in the Algarve, but in our country»

Cláudia Vasconcelos, general coordinator of the Territorial Nucleus of Faro of the Liberal Initiative (IL), denies that this party supports Luís Carito's candidacy for the Municipality of Portimão, thus contradicting what was announced this afternoon by the candidate himself.

In clarification sent to the Sul Informação, IL stresses that «at no time were we contacted by Luís Carito or by any member of his team, in order to support a potential application». However, they stress, “even if this contact had been made, we would not support this candidacy”.

Because, adds the clarification, the Liberal Initiative "has transparency as one of its fundamental pillars and we will never put this value in question."

«IL in the Algarve will not at any time leave its principles behind to support this candidacy, which is the representation of nepotism, cronyism, corruption and public mismanagement that exists not only in the Algarve, but in our country. We will never support this type of public management, nor those who represent it», they stress.

IL's working group for the Portimão municipality, «in due course, will have the opportunity to present its solutions for this municipality».

In the announcement he made this afternoon, in Praia da Rocha, Luís Carito said that his candidacy for the Portimão Chamber is "independent", but supported by a "multi-party movement", including the "PSD, CDS and Liberal Initiative", as well as "independent people without a party".

However, the 20:00 session at the Teatro Municipal de Portimão, which should have included the participation of PSD and CDS council leaders, Carlos Gouveia Martins and João Caetano, respectively, was postponed. In a message sent to Sul Informação, the president of the Portimonenses Social Democrats announced that "we are going to continue the work to reach a coalition party agreement, which will have a candidacy for all organs".
