The protection and relief missions carried out by the Fire Department of the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters of Faro include the removal or transport of a corpse from the public road, housing or other location, after confirmation of death by the competent authorities, road cleaning and danger signs for circulation with the possible removal of obstacles, opening of doors and elevators, reaction to the State Special Alert determined by the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority and ensure the maintenance of the facilities of the Gorjões Detachment and have at least one Fire Fighting Team (ECIN) ready.

According to the autarchy, "this body will also be responsible for promoting awareness-raising actions for the population in the context of protection and relief, collaborating with the Municipal Council of Faro in the context of prevention and assistance to events with the provision of pre-hospital emergency teams on foot and collaborating with an adequate operational response to intervention requests made by the Municipal Civil Protection Authority or by persons designated by it».

In the opinion of the Chamber, this support will allow the “Humanitarian Association to equip itself with more and better means, thus contributing to making the environment even safer for people and goods in the municipality's territory, which still have another corporation of firefighters: the Sappers of Faro».
