Albufeira Crematorium carried out more than a thousand cremations in its first year of operation

At the height of the pandemic, up to 12 cremations a day were made

The Albufeira Crematorium, the first to open in the Algarve, carried out «more than a thousand cremations» in its first year of operation, which is completed on the 19th of March.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, Cremal, the company that manages the equipment, located in the space adjacent to the current cemetery of Vale Pedras, (New Cemetery) in Albufeira, said that the crematorium ""exceeded" even its natural geographic area (Algarve/ Baixo Alentejo), having hosted several funeral directors from the North and Center of Portugal who came to Albufeira to make cremations at the height of the pandemic».

According to the company, at that time, 12 cremations were carried out a day, «without the need to extend working hours, something that, naturally, contributed to restoring a sanitary normality, strongly shaken for reasons known to everyone».

«There were 365 days in which this business idea, with investment made 100% with Algarve capital, was able to adapt to a particularly difficult context, marked by the pandemic that we are all facing», reports Cremal.
