Aljezur and Monchique are the only two municipalities in the Algarve without any active case of Covid-19, according to data that have just been released in the usual weekly bulletin of the District Civil Protection Commission.
O Sul Informação, which daily accompanies the situation of the Algarve region on the interactive map, you know that Aljezur is already without active cases since yesterday, this being the second consecutive day, while in Monchique this happened today.
But it is also known that this situation is extremely volatile, with a single case or an unexpected outbreak being enough to change the fragile accounting. See the case of Alcoutim, which, on Wednesday, also had zero active cases, and, on that same day, a outbreak among workers who are building a mega photovoltaic plant in the county and thus have, according to today's numbers, 8 infected people.
According to what our newspaper found, some of the cases related to this outbreak among workers at the photovoltaic plant are even being counted in neighboring municipalities, especially in Tavira (now with 14 more new infections), where many of these people have their residence temporary.
Analyzing the data from the Regional Health Authority released today by the District Civil Protection, there is, however, more good news: three municipalities (Aljezur, Monchique and Silves) did not register any new cases during the week, since March 5th.
In terms of new cases across the region, there were 194 more in the last eight days, as well as 4 deaths (2 in Portimão, 1 in Loulé and another in São Brás de Alportel).
On the other hand, the number of people recovered from Covid-19 increased more significantly: over the course of the week there were 363 more recoveries, for a total of 19.153.
This was reflected in the further decrease in active cases in the Algarve: at the moment, there are 427 active cases, 273 less than on the 5th of March.
As for hospitals in the Algarve, the situation is also much calmer. There are now 27 Covid-19 sick people hospitalized (12 less than a week ago), of which 7 are in Intensive Care (less 3) and 5 ventilated (less 1).
