Câmara de Lagoa receives land to create a sports area for the Lagoa Urban Park

Land was granted to the municipality by the Centro Popular de Lagoa (CPL)

On Friday, the 12th, the Municipality of Lagoa and the Popular Center of Lagoa (CPL) signed a protocol for the transfer of land, in what the municipality says is “the first step” for the Urban Park of Lagoa.

The land ceded to the municipality by the CPL «has an area of 7500 square meters and will make it possible to implement a good part of the sports component of the Lagoa Urban Park. It is a portion that previously belonged to the extinct association “Amigos de Lagoa” and is now under the responsibility of the municipality for a period of 50 years», revealed the Chamber.

The space in question «already integrates a set of structures that the municipality is preparing to recover and re-qualify. This is the case of the existing pavilion on the assigned land, comprising the social room, toilets, changing rooms and showers for women and men and a storage room».

«The removal of asbestos, present in some of the existing roofs, is also part of the planned works. It is also planned to install four paddle tennis courts and requalify the entire area where the tennis courts are currently located”, added the municipality.

«This is the starting point for the future urban park of Lagoa. On behalf of the municipality and on my own behalf, I want to thank the direction of the CPL for their availability for a partnership from which everyone wins. The CPL wins, but the population of Lagoa also wins, since this gives rise to the possibility of more and better public space, destined for the enjoyment of all the inhabitants of the municipality», declared Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.

After the redevelopment of the space, it is planned that the pavilion will be used, during the day, by the children of the A Colmeia crèche. From 18:00, he will be at the services of clubs and associations in the county, namely those that have martial arts modalities. The paddle courts will be made available to the community.

«It is with firm steps, like this one, that an increasingly better council is built to live, work or visit. Everything we have achieved is the result of hard work and many hours dedicated to common causes», concluded Luís Encarnação.
