António Pina, mayor of Olhão since 2013, is again the PS candidate for this municipality in this year's elections.

The announcement was made this Wednesday, March 31, by the PS's Olhão Council Political Commission.

“The decision taken is an acknowledgment, by the local council, for the work carried out by the mayor in the last 8 years”, say the socialists, in a press release.

«The party also highlighted that – even in the face of two of the biggest crises of the democratic period, the world economic crisis, during the first term and the current pandemic – António Miguel Pina and his team managed to bring to fruition the promised regularization of the municipality's accounts. and launching of structural works, in the first four years, and the completion of a number of works, of unprecedented size, some desired by the population for more than 20 years».

For António Pina, «continuing ahead of the destinations of Olhão continues to be a great challenge. Olhão is a council of enormous potential and the people of Olhão are a demanding people, but above all deserving of what, together, has been achieved, with work, sacrifice and the pride of never turning their face to the fight».

“It is my wish to continue to honor the support and trust we have had from the people of Olho and contribute to the development of our land. The work is in sight, we must look ahead and, with the contribution and participation of everyone, continue to consolidate this positive transformation that has been raising the image of Olhão, Quelfes, Moncarapacho, Fuzeta and Pechão, as well as the conditions of life of our fellow citizens. But more than contemplating how much has been done, we want to keep our sleeves rolled up in view of the much still to be done», he adds.

If he wins, this will be António Pina's last term at the head of Olhão Chamber. The mayor has also been, since October 2019, the president of AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, after the departure, at the time, of Jorge Botelho to the Assembly of the Republic.
