António Eusébio is the new chairman of the board of Águas do Algarve (AdA), replacing Joaquim Peres in the post, following the election of the company's new governing bodies, which took place on Monday, the 15th.

The former mayor of São Brás de Alportel and former member of the Assembly of the Republic by PS was already a member of the previous administration (since 2016), but now rises to the highest position in the hierarchy of the Board of Directors of the company responsible for the Multimunicipal System of Water Supply and Sanitation in the Algarve.

Accompanying António Eusébio in this body will be Isabel Soares, former mayor of Silves (PSD), who has been in the management of Águas do Algarve since 2012 and is the vice-chairman of the administration, and Hugo Nunes (former member of the PS and former deputy mayor of Loulé), who joins Águas do Algarve as an executive member, after having belonged to the previous management team of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve.

As non-executive members, two mayors, the socialist Ana Paula Martins (Tavira) and the social democrat José Carlos Rolo (Albufeira).

The board of the AdA General Meeting will be chaired by Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro (PSD), which will have Paulo Fernandes and Ana Cristina Pereira as vice president and secretary, respectively.

In addition to the election of new corporate bodies, the company's General Meeting of Shareholders served to discuss and approve the 2020 management report and accounts.

With regard to investment, in 2020, it amounted to 7,49 million euros and Total Customer Debt (invoiced) was 37,47 million euros in 2020, when it had been 35,33 million in 2019.

"Turnover (59,02 million euros) decreased 2,4% (-1,46 million euros) compared to 2019 (60,48 million euros)," added AdA.

The company highlights “the construction works of the Flotador at the Alcantarilha ETA, the installation of a cofferdam for preventive maintenance of the flood discharge gate at the Odeleite Dam and the expansion of the Photovoltaic Central at the Alcantarilha ETA”.

«The year 2020 was a year without precedence in the world and without a doubt one of the most challenging in the history of Águas do Algarve. Due to a silent pandemic that has penetrated all sectors of our economy, Águas do Algarve had to adapt to guarantee the continuity of water supply for human consumption and sanitation in our region, without harming the quality of service», concluded the company.
