Tennis: 30th Faro Open starts today with 19 Portuguese in qualifying

Tournament was promoted to $25.000 category

The Tennis and Padel Center of Faro organizes, starting this Sunday, with the support of the Portuguese Tennis Federation, the 30th edition of Faro Open, which will run until March 7th.

This year, the international tournament was promoted to the $25.000 prize money category and is the second in a series of three consecutive events planned for the Algarve region.

The first three days are for the qualifying, which has the presence of 19 Portuguese players: Francisco Cabral and Gonçalo Falcão are among the seeded (10th and 16th, respectively), Tiago Torres, Francisco Faria, João António, Tomás Almeida, Tiago Rodrigo Fernandes, Illia Stoliar, Pedro Libório, Afonso Portugal, Eduardo Morais and José Ricardo Nunes had direct entry and João Ferreira, Vasco Leote Prata, André Stewart, Martim Simões, Tiago Boschmans, Heber Adonis and João Maria Soares were “awarded” with wild cards (invitations ), as well as Frenchman François Musiletti.

Celebrating the 30th edition, the Faro Open is the longest-running international tournament in Portugal. This year, due to the pandemic, it is carried out “behind closed doors” and in accordance with all the norms of the General Directorate of Health.
