«When they called me from Farense, I didn't think twice. My main immediate objective is to restore confidence to the team and change the players' minds». These were the words of Jorge Costa, the new coach of the Algarve, after the first game played by Farense, this Thursday, February 4, against Santa Clara (1-1).

At the end of the meeting, Jorge Costa spoke, in the press room, about joining the club of Faro, tracing, as «first big goal», the desire to «change the players' minds».

“I know it's not easy, confidence comes with results, but we have quality. We have players, structure and beautiful working conditions and I am absolutely convinced that, in the end, our classification will be completely different from the current one”, he told journalists.

Farense is in the relegation zone, with 13 points won, but the new coach sees quality in the team to change this reality.

«I have my idea, I followed the Portuguese championship and I was not surprised by the way Farense played: it surprises me the place Farense occupies in the table. We have players and quality to make a more peaceful championship», he considered.

As for his return to Portugal, after having coached Olhanense (2008/2009 and 2009/2010), Braga, Académica, Paços de Ferreira and Arouca, Jorge Costa said that, despite having had other «three very nice invitations», did not accept.

But, «when they called me from Farense, I didn't think twice. It's the opportunity to return to the country, be close to mine, serve a historic club and return to a region where I was once very happy and hope to be again. I know that I occupy a place envied by many of my colleagues», he said.

As for the transfer market, which has already closed, Jorge Costa explained that the focus “is to recover players” who are injured, such as Djalma, Fabricio, Bilel or Alvarinho.

The options that the Algarvians have are "sufficient and more than valid to be able to face the games and change the way they deem necessary", in the coach's opinion.

Finally, regarding the draw with Santa Clara, Jorge Costa admitted that the game "could have gone to one side or the other", but, considering "the clear goalscoring opportunities, if there was a winner it would be Farense".
