Covid-19 was responsible for over 40% of deaths between January 25th and February 7th

The week of January 25-31 was the worst in terms of deaths since the start of the pandemic

More than 40 percent of deaths in Portugal between late January and early February were attributed to Covid-19, according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) released today.

Of the 8.536 deaths verified between 25 January and 7 February, 3.633 were due to disease caused by the new coronavirus, which is equivalent to 42,5% of the total.

During this period, "the number of deaths decreased, despite continuing to be much higher than observed since the beginning of the pandemic", points out the INE, indicating that the week from 25 to 31 January was the worst in terms of deaths (4.711) since the onset of the pandemic.
