The Cardiology Service of the Hospital de Faro it already has “better conditions to welcome the sick and do even better what is already well done”, after the renovation works that were inaugurated this Wednesday, February 17th.

This was a 500-euro venture, which took place in three distinct phases, but always during the current pandemic. Still, despite the constraints, the truth is that the service never completely closed.

“This is an area where there's not much for a person to wait: the acute coronary patient has to be treated immediately, otherwise there are consequences. It doesn't seem to me to be the area, at all, where Covid-19 has had the greatest impact because it has always worked,” said Ana Castro, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of CHUA.

The works now completed allowed the expansion of the Electrophysiology area and the creation of an Echocardiography room and another for Recobro, next to the Coronary Unit, with the objective of supporting these two areas.

In terms of comfort and improvement of facilities, the general intervention throughout the service also covered the painting of spaces, replacement of ceilings, lighting and electrical installation, modernization of patient call and fire detection systems, installation of air conditioning in the corridor and floor replacement, in a total refurbishment area of 780 square meters.

According to Ana Castro, one of the great advantages of these works is the fact that they «monetize areas that were remodeled and redefined», allowing «to give another functionality to the service».

The cardiology service, moreover, has a maximum capacity of six patients in intensive care, 15 in the ward and 4 in recovery, the latter an “area that did not exist before”.
