Transport authority gives green light to public tenders for “Próximo” and “Vai Vem”

At issue is the adequacy of concessions to the latest European directives

Public tenders for the acquisition of passenger road transport services in the Municipality of Faro and for the contracting of the urban public transport network in the Municipality of Portimão, they received a prior opinion from the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT).

At issue is the adequacy of the contracts that were already in force before, relating to "Next" services (Faro) and “Vai Vem” (Portimão), to new European Union directives.

According to the AMT, both in the case of Portimão and in Faro, the positive binding prior opinion that is now given to the procedures is "a relevant step" in the implementation of the "legal, national and European imperatives" to which City Councils are now subject, in public transport concession contracts, "in the sense of of a better framework for public transport services, with a view to inclusive, efficient and sustainable mobility'.

"Like other procedures, the AMT will monitor the execution of the contract in order to ensure that, at all times, the applicable legal and contractual regulations are complied with, as well as the various recommendations and determinations made, particularly with regard to transmission of relevant or legal and regularly foreseen information, especially regarding Municipalities with contracts of limited duration», concluded this entity.
