food from Faro will have new facilities provided by the Chamber

"This is an act of justice", says Rogério Bacalhau

The Food of Faro it will have new facilities, ceded by the City Council, which will allow it to increase its aid capacity.

The Chamber of Faro approved this Monday the transfer of facilities, through a lending contract, to the Refood association.

According to the municipality, the «allocation of a new space will allow an increase in its capacity to help Refood and social response to the municipality's population, through the collection and redistribution of food products to people in need or incapacity».

The new facilities will be in the neighborhood of Santo António do Alto, in Faro, for a period of five years.

The autonomous fraction, acquired by the municipality in December, has an area of 130,30 square meters.

Currently, Refood already supports a total of 108 households in the municipality of Faro, totaling around 300 people supported, including around 100 children, having reached the limit of its capacity to help the population due to the small size of its current operations centre, inaugurated and in operation since 2016.

In this sense, the association, which aims to contribute to solving the problem of food insufficiency of the needy population through the collection of surpluses or donations of food products and subsequent redistribution, asked the municipality for support to allocate a space with the necessary working conditions for help a greater number of people in the county.

At the end of the Chamber meeting, President Rogério Bacalhau said that, «with this concession, the Chamber pursues a fundamental premise which is to be by the side of those who need it most. In this case, this support is provided to an association that develops an extremely meritorious work with the families and citizens who need it most».

Therefore, he concludes, "this is an act of justice and, at the same time, an investment to bring Refood and its selfless volunteers to reach even more people."
