Olhão creates a Public Health Support Center due to the increase in Covid-19 cases

This nucleus works since last Thursday, January 21st

The Municipality of Olhão created a Public Health Support Center due to the «significant increase in the number of cases and people in prophylactic isolation» in the municipality.

This nucleus, which has been in operation since last Thursday, January 21st, was visited yesterday, the 26th, by António Pina, mayor of Olhão.

The structure, included in the Municipal Civil Protection Emergency Plan, is part of the Municipal Operational Command Post and works under the coordination of the Health Delegate at the José Mariano Gago Municipal Library.

In addition to technicians from the Public Health Unit of Olhão and the Municipal Civil Protection Service, another 32 employees of the municipality were temporarily assigned to this service, whose activity, due to the current context, was suspended.

The operation was preceded by a training program directed at the autarchy's technicians, given by Public Health doctors, where all the protocols for their performance were defined.

Among other functions, the employees of this Center will carry out epidemiological monitoring of the population, namely by carrying out epidemiological surveys, increasing the effectiveness of monitoring people under active surveillance, an operation considered essential to curb transmission chains.

In addition, they will also produce and send all inherent documentation, namely prophylactic isolation declarations.

The purpose of creating this Public Health Support Center in Olhão is to support the Public Health Unit, reducing time and improving the quality of response to users.
