The three thousand operational assistants (AO) resulting from the recent revision of the ratios ordinance and of the State Budget for 2021, in force since January 01st, will begin to be hired by schools and municipalities, the Ministry of Education has just announced.

After the approval of a new ratios ordinance in 2017, the Government once again revised the criteria for awarding AO, «in meeting the needs indicated by the different educational agents».

Therefore, stresses the ME note, "at a time when the country is going through an epidemiological situation that requires increased efforts by the entire population, and schools in particular, this reinforcement of workers is even more significant, given the preponderant role of the educational support staff in the school space».

The tenders for the hiring of these three thousand operational assistants, which will now be launched, aim at «permanent links to the Public Administration», and will join the 1500 employees hired at the beginning of this school year, through procedures for
term contracting, and to about 500 AO and 200 technical assistants, whose procedures were launched last July, also linked to the Public Administration.

The ME stresses, in its note, that «this new revision of the ordinance on ratios reduces the number of students per AO in primary and secondary education, as well as adapting, once again, the number of AO allocated according to additional support needs and monitoring of children and young people with specific educational needs (they now count as 2,5 students, after in 2017 there was, for the first time, an increase, in which they now count as 1,5 students).
