The Employment Interior Mais measure, which financially supports workers who decide to move to the interior, has already approved two candidacies for localities in the Algarve: Benafim, in the municipality of Loulé, and Figueira, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo.

According to the Sul Informação, in the case of Benafim, the approved application “brought” a pharmacist and his family to the village.

The candidacy for Figueira, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, which was approved this year, will support the displacement of an employee «in the pedagogical area, to work in a school», revealed Madalena Feu, regional delegate of the Employment and Vocational Training Institute (IEFP), to Sul Informação.

According to the official, so far, four applications for this measure have been submitted to the Algarve, two of which have not met the requirements.

"It's a good opportunity", even more "in the current context in which telework is gaining importance and can be done anywhere", considers Madalena Feu.

According to data released by the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, at national level, by the end of December, 207 applications had been received, corresponding to 740 people, including, in addition to candidates, members of the household.

Of these candidacies, 77 were approved, "which means that 222 people have already moved to inland territories and benefited from this state support," stresses Ana Abrunhosa's ministry.

The Centro zone was the one with the most approved applications, in a total of 52, followed by the North, with 15 approved applications, the Alentejo, with 10, and the Algarve, with two, the second corresponding to the municipality of Vila do Bispo, is not yet in the data released by the Government.

The amount of approved support amounts to 230 thousand euros.

The measure, which is operationalized by the IEFP, grants support of up to 4.827 euros to unemployed workers or employees looking for a new job, who move to inland territories.

Applicants must have a full-time contract (lasting at least one year) and self-employment is also covered.

According to the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion, “almost half of the candidates with approved processes are young people up to 34 years old (45% of the total) and almost two thirds (64%) have higher education qualifications. Most of the approved applications (50) are related to work processes for others, 22 applications are related to the creation of their own job and 5 applications are from people who created companies».

Direct financial support for those moving to the interior is 2.633 euros, plus a 20% increase for each member of the household (up to a limit of 1.316 euros). The cost of transporting goods is also covered, up to a limit of 878 euros.

Applications are still open on the IEFP page.

In the Algarve, support can be given to workers who decide to move to the municipalities of Monchique, Aljezur, Vila do Bispo, Alcoutim and Castro Marim.

In addition to these five municipalities, the parishes of São Marcos da Serra (Silves), Ameixial, Alte, Salir, Querença, Tôr and Benafim (Loulé), Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo and Cachopo (Tavira) are covered by this measure.
