2021 Portimão GP is already at the box office on the official Formula 1 website

The test in Portimão, to be confirmed, will take place on the 2nd of May

The 2021 Grand Prix of Portugal, to be played at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão, already appears at the box office on the official Formula 1 website and will be very close to occupying the only place still open in the competition program, this year, on the 2nd of May.

This is the only date that appears as being in a place to be designated in the redesigned calendar for the 2021 Formula 1 competition, which was announced today by the race organizers.

Although the official communication broadcast today by Formula 1 does not mention Portimão – it only says that the race scheduled for the date of 2 May, and which appears as being to be designated, «will be announced in due course» -, the AIA is given by the specialized international press , including Sky Sports, which has the right to broadcast Formula 1 in many countries, as the venue of choice for the organization.

Ni Amorim, president of the Portuguese Federation of Motorsports and Karting (FPAK), admitted today to Lusa Agency that "there are advanced negotiations for a Formula 1 Grand Prix of Portugal on May 2", but stressed that everything will depend on the will of the Government and the possibility of the presence of an audience.

The conditions are: «there is a public, as it only makes sense with an audience in the stands, and if the Portuguese State wants to», stressed Ni Amorim.

The same person in charge clarified that "it is necessary to pay" an entry fee, in order to be part of the Formula 1 World Cup.

«F1 doesn't move for free. The Grand Prix [of Portugal 2020] gave an extraordinary return and the data is already in the possession of the Government. But we understand that, at this moment, there are other priorities and it has not yet been possible to discuss the matter», said Ni Amorim.

Formula 1 has, however, started pre-selling tickets on its official website and is accepting expressions of interest in the purchase of tickets for the Grand Prix of Portugal, although the evidence is subject to confirmation.

The race that, if negotiations reach a successful conclusion, will take place in Portimão, will be the third of the 2021 championship, after the debut, scheduled for March 28, in Bahrain, and the race in Imola, Italy, at 18 Of april. In all, the competition is expected to have 23 races.
