The Pfizer/BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine is not linked to any reported post-inoculation deaths nor poses a particular risk for the elderly, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) reported today.

“No specific safety concerns have been identified for the use of vaccines in frail elderly individuals,” according to a statement from the EMA, in which it is stressed that “Comirnaty's benefits in preventing Covid-19 continue to outweigh any risks. any change in the use of the vaccine is recommended”.

The European drug regulator said in a statement that it had reviewed deaths since the vaccine was first launched, including a number of elderly people, and “concluded that the data did not show a link to the Comirnaty vaccination and that the cases do not raise concerns of security".

In its first update on the safety of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine since the European Union (EU) began its vaccination campaign in December, the EMA concluded that the data “is consistent with the known safety profile of the vaccine and was not identified new side effects”.

The side effect already identified is that of an allergic reaction to the vaccine.

The EU regulator has already approved the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines, with AstraZeneca/Oxford expected soon.
