Two outbreaks with dozens of associated cases, one in the Lar de Santa Maria and the other in a gym, are increasing the number of active cases in Tavira since the weekend.

In the home of the Social and Parish Center of Santa Maria de Tavira, 25 users and one employee tested positive, as revealed by Father Miguel Neto, president of the institution's board, in a press release.

"The infected users are isolated from the rest, in the facilities of Lar de Santa Maria, where a dedicated team provides them with regular care, ensuring all the support and treatment they need," he added.

This team is being guided by the Health Delegate of Tavira and «has the support of a doctor and a nurse from the National Health Service».

As for the outbreak associated with a gym, "initially there were 12 associated cases", but "between family and personal connections, there should be more", he told the Sul Informação Ana Paula Martins, president of the Chamber of Tavira.

“I'm going to meet with the Health Authority, to make an exact survey of the cases that are associated with the outbreak. The Chamber will release a statement today with this information», added the mayor of Tavir.

What is certain is that new cases have been increasing gradually in recent days, in such a way that the limit of 59 active cases has already been exceeded, the number above which Tavira now has more than 240 cases per 100 inhabitants.

“We currently have more than 70 active cases and the trend is for them to increase in the coming days. Therefore, I won't be surprised if we stay on the list of risk councils, in the next update that the Government does», believes Ana Paula Martins.

As for the outbreak at Lar de Santa Maria, "it is not related to this one in the gym".

Father Miguel Neto, for his part, assured that “the family members responsible for the users, who are those identified in the service provision contract, will be contacted daily by our institution, in order to report on the situation of each family member. ».

“First, the relatives of the infected users have already been contacted, and then the relatives of the non-infected users. From now on, we ask that you do not make telephone calls to the institution, in order not to overload the telephone lines, ensuring that all information will be provided to you in a timely and clear and clarifying manner", assured the head of the Social and Parish Center of Santa Maria de Tavira.

The priest thanked the health delegate, the director of the Regional Social Security Center and the mayor for the support he received, “who, from the very beginning, were present and mobilized efforts so that we can contain this outbreak and that our users nothing is lacking».

“To all our workers, who are showing the users all their dedication and commitment, we thank you very much,” added Father Miguel Neto.
