The City Council of São Brás de Alportel is preparing an “even more solidary Christmas”, taking into account the social problems caused by the pandemic.
On Thursday, the Local Platform for Food Aid, an entity coordinated by the Chamber and the Parish Council, which includes the participation of the Local Nucleus of Cáritas, of the Local Nucleus of CASA, of the Salvation Army, of the CCD – Centro de Culture and Sports of Workers, Santa Casa da Misericórdia and the School Group, gathered to think about actions «to bring help and hope to the families that need it most».
And one of the measures involves the already usual distribution of the Cabaz da Consoada, which "will reach a greater number of homes this year and will be even more solidary with the local economy."
«Since it is impossible to hold the traditional Solidarity Dinner this year, which seeks to provide the most vulnerable families with a special night, having always counted on the help of local companies in offering all the food for their preparation, the municipality and the parish intend to repay their generosity, precisely buying from many of these companies – butchers, confectioners, food distributors – the foods that make up the Cabaz da Consoada», revealed the City Council of São Brás.
In addition to food, "this year the basket will also take hygiene products that are essential and in these times of crisis they sometimes become inaccessible to the wallet of many families."
Here, all citizens can make their contribution.
The Local Food Aid Platform will launch a campaign to collect personal or household hygiene and cleaning products. Those interested in helping should leave donations in the lobby of the São Brás Cineteatro, from Monday to Saturday, starting tomorrow, the 3rd.
It will also be at the entrance to this performance room that “an adapted version of the Mercadinho Solidário will be held, which, not being able to be implemented in its usual ways, will bring to this space, every day, a local institution of a social nature, with suggestions for gifts Christmas celebrations'.
On the week of December 14th, an Exhibition of Solidarity Art will be on display at the Municipal Gallery.
Also the solidarity project “Anjinhos de Natal”, which reaches families in need, “in a discreet way”, gifts for all children, “purchased according to their age, so that on Christmas Eve, all the children can have one. present in your “little shoe”».
