Portuguese more pessimistic about the situation in the country

7 out of 10 Portuguese consider the country's situation to be bad and expect it to remain so in early 2021

72% of the Portuguese express a negative opinion about the current situation in the country, according to data from the Observador Cetelem Natal 2020. In September, this figure was 48% and in June 54%.

The same 72% of respondents are not very optimistic about the evolution of the country's situation during the first quarter of 2021.

Observer Cetelem asked the Portuguese again about their opinion regarding the current situation in the country and about their expectations for the first quarter of 2021.

Regarding their personal situation, the scenario is less pessimistic: less than half (43%) of the respondents express a negative opinion. This value, when compared to that recorded in September and June, shows little change – 40% and 44%, respectively. They also consider that their personal situation will be quite similar in the first quarter of 2021.

As for consumption intentions for the beginning of the new year, among the Portuguese respondents, 24% expressed intentions to buy shoes / clothes and 10% to buy books. However, in terms of spending, the priority of the Portuguese goes to technological devices and large appliances.

In the category of technological devices, expenditures on computers stand out, as they are the highest (616€ of average expenditure), followed by smartphones (320€), large household appliances (249€) and expenditure on image and sound materials (233€).
