A 48-year-old man of Romanian nationality disappeared during the afternoon of this Sunday, December 13, in the Guadiana river, near Foz de Odeleite, in the municipality of Castro Marim.

This man entered the water "and was no longer seen by two fishermen who accompanied him," according to the National Maritime Authority (AMN).

After the alert, at 16 pm, the captain of the Port of Vila Real de Santo António immediately activated a Maritime Police vessel and a vessel from the Vila Real de Santo António Life-Saving Station to the location to try to find the man.

Searches were carried out at the site, but they were interrupted at sunset without being able to locate this Romanian citizen.

Operations "will resume tomorrow at first dawn," says the National Maritime Authority.

An INEM ambulance was also at the site.
