Armed Forces support the Ministry of Health in the planning and logistics of the COVID-19 vaccine distribution

Military personnel provide support in various areas

The Armed Forces are supporting the Ministry of Health in the planning and logistics of the distribution of the Vaccine, through the commitment of eleven soldiers, from the Decision Support Nucleus of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

In the Situation Room of the Ministry of Health, there are three soldiers, who provide advice and decision support to the Secretary of State for Health, regarding the planning of vaccination. The military collects and analyzes data, which is used in models to predict and optimize vaccine delivery.

At the National Logistics Centre, located in the Service for Common Use of Hospitals (SUCH), in Montemor-o-Velho, two soldiers are part of a planning cell, responsible for organizing the Logistics Operation, from reception of vaccines, storage, preparation of delivery orders, distribution and transport to vaccination posts.

In the General Directorate of Health (DGS), there is a military pharmacist, supporting the DGS in the vaccination plan, namely in the establishment of priority groups and in monitoring the work being carried out by other countries of the European Union.

On the General Staff of the Armed Forces, there are also five soldiers, in the rear of the planning for the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.
