Covid-19: Campaign "Give change to those who need it" starts Monday in pharmacies

Donations will be applied to the purchase of medicines

Associação Dignitude will launch a fundraising campaign next Monday to invite the Portuguese to donate change from purchases made in pharmacies to help people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The campaign “Give change to those who need it”, which starts on Monday and ends on December 22, invites the Portuguese to donate change for purchases made in pharmacies to Emergency: Covid-19.

Today, in a statement, the association said that the collected donations will be fully applied to access to medicines, products and health services for people in need and more vulnerable due to the pandemic.

Since it was launched in March this year, the abem Emergency: Covid-19 has already supported, according to the association, more than 900 Portuguese referenced by local partner entities such as Municipal Councils, Parish Councils, Private Institutions of Social Solidarity, Cáritas and Misericórdias .

The ambassador of Associação Dignitude, Maria de Belém Roseira, recalls, cited in the note, that the response to the pandemic has imposed a profound change in life in society.

“The economic and social impact of measures to prevent contagion by covid-19 reached a dimension that is still difficult to calculate, but it is already clear that the immense difficulties in many Portuguese families are deepening. It was to support our fellow citizens that we created the Emergency abem: Covid-19, so that even in this most fragile moment they can continue to have access to the medicines, products and health services they so much need to live”, he said.

Maria de Belém Roseira recalls that before the pandemic, one in 10 people in Portugal could not buy medicines.

“We know these numbers are currently much higher. That's why the campaign 'Give Change to Those in Need' is this year dedicated to this initiative, so we appeal, once again, to the generosity of everyone”, he said.

In addition to the campaign that will take place at participating pharmacies between the 14th and 22nd of December, it is also possible to support this initiative by bank transfer.
