AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community participated, last Thursday, December 10th, in the webinar International “Sustainable Municipalities: Climate Change, Responsible Production and Consumption”.

This initiative took place within the framework of the ACCIONAD-ODS (Capacity Building of Local Actors on Sustainable Development Goals) cross-border cooperation project.

After the presentation of the PIAAC – Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Algarve, AMAL's first secretary Brandão Pires made known some of the initiatives in this area in which this Intermunicipal Community is involved, namely the articulation, with municipalities and other partners in the region, in the preparation of the bases for the Algarve Water Efficiency Plan presented , formally, in September.

“Municipalities and local entities/associations are seen as key actors for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this sense, the Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve was invited to participate in this webinar, since the 16 municipalities in the region have taken the issue of Climate Change as central to their territorial development strategies», says AMAL.

Moreover, the Algarve Intermunicipal Community guarantees that it is committed to promoting a concerted regional strategy, embodied in the PIAAC – Intermunicipal Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Algarve, concluded in June 2019 and which was the first plan around this theme , at national level, to be presented by an Intermunicipal Community'.

On the other hand, as the promoting entity of the PIAAC, AMAL formalized an application to the EEA Grants, in partnership with RTA and the Norwegian entity The Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), for the implementation of the PIAAC-AMAL, in terms of management, training and communication. The project was approved on the 23rd of November.
