Vila do Bispo celebrates International Day of Educating Cities

Exhibition of pieces made by pre-school and 1st cycle students of the county marks date

The Municipality of Vila do Bispo will celebrate the International Day of Educating Cities, marked on 30 November, and the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of the Charter of European Cities, the route of cities that make up the International Association of Educating Cities (AICE).

To mark this edition, whose motto is “30 years of transforming people and cities for a better world”, the Vila do Bispo Cultural Center will host, on the 30th, an exhibition entitled “30 years of Educating Cities”.

In this exhibition, 20 wooden hands decorated with the 20 principles of the Charter can be appreciated. It is a set of works where each hand explains a principle, carried out by pre-school and 1st cycle students in the municipality.

The initiative aims to make the little ones aware of the principles that guide this document and the respective association.

Since September 2019, the Municipality of Vila do Bispo integrates the AICE and, thus, the Portuguese Territorial Network of Educating Cities (RTCE), which currently has 84 Municipalities on the continent and autonomous regions, which have subscribed to the Charter of Cities Educators.

The Charter of Educating Cities is a unifying element in defining the policies of member municipalities, with educating cities working so that education becomes the transversal axis of all local policies.

The exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 15:30 pm until the 7th of January. Admission is free.
