Tito Olívio Henriques was awarded the 2020 Career Award by the Ordem dos Engenheiros. The ceremony took place on the 23rd of October, in Faro.

The Career Award, awarded for the second consecutive year, is promoted by the District Delegation of Faro of the Order of Engineers, with the support of the Board of Directors of the Southern Region of that professional organization. This initiative was part of the commemoration of the District's Day of the Algarve Engineer.

This year, the winner was engineer Tito Olívio Henriques, with the diploma delivered by the president of the Southern Region of the Ordem dos Engenheiros, Luís Machado, and the medal of honor by the district delegate of Faro, António Morgado André.

Tito Olívio Henriques, born in Vila Cova do Covelo (Penalva do Castelo) in 1931, has been an effective member of the Ordem dos Engenheiros for over 61 years and has a vast curriculum in engineering, politics, on a voluntary basis, and is also a writer, painter and sculptor. In 2011, he received the City of Merit Medal of Faro, gold grade.

He was a professor of technical education at the schools of Silves and Faro and high school education at the Liceu de Faro. He served as Director of the Regional Services of Hidráulica do Guadiana, in Faro, where he has lived since 1963.

In addition to other professional functions, he dedicated himself to the provision of various gracious services of a sociocultural nature. He was elected to various associative positions, having been director of multiple organizations in the city, including: Cineclube, Sporting Club Farense, District Referees Committee, Administrative Committee of Sport Faro and Benfica, Chess Association of Faro, Red Cross Delegation, Rotary Club of Faro, Directorate of Volunteer Firefighters, Santa Casa da Misericórdia and councilor at the City Council, between 1971 and 1974.

It has more than 100 literary awards, from Portugal and Brazil, and is an unavoidable reference of the sociocultural heritage of Faro and the Algarve.

The ceremony began at the District Delegation of Faro of the OE, with a reduced number of participants, given the current epidemiological situation.

This was followed by a simple dinner, with only 16 elements, in compliance with all the rules imposed by the DGS. Despite the distance between colleagues, it was a very pleasant moment of interaction and an excellent opportunity to pay tribute to another colleague.

The Ordem dos Engenheiros also makes a special thanks to the applicants of the application – the engineers Ilídio Mestre and Bruno Lage – and to the members of the Jury for the 2020 Career Award.
